Content Writer Resume Tips From Hiring Managers
Include a link to your portfolio or published clips — it's the most important part of a writing application.
Name the SEO tools you use (Ahrefs, Semrush, Clearscope) — it signals professional-grade SEO knowledge.
Quantify content performance: organic traffic growth, ranking positions, or conversion impact.
Show content range: blog, email, social, whitepaper — versatility is valued at smaller teams.
Mention industries you've written for (SaaS, e-commerce, healthcare) — domain expertise speeds up the hiring decision.
Writing a Great Content Writer Resume
A content writer's resume is itself a writing sample, whether the candidate intends it that way or not. A recruiter reading dense paragraphs or vague claims ("excellent writer," "strong storyteller") draws a conclusion before reaching the portfolio link. This example is built the way a good piece of content is built: a summary that hooks with a specific specialty (SEO, long-form, technical, editorial) rather than a generic label, bullets that lead with outcomes readers can picture — organic traffic growth, engagement lift, a content calendar that cut publishing delays — and a skills list that separates writing craft from platform knowledge (CMS tools, SEO research, AI-assisted workflows). Portfolio and publication links sit near the top, not buried at the bottom, since that's usually the first thing an editor clicks. Treat this as a format to fill with your own voice and clips, not a script to copy word for word.
